Overview

Brahmatal Trek is a spectacular Himalayan adventure in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, known for its snow-covered landscapes, alpine lakes, dense mountain forests and breathtaking views of some of the most beautiful Himalayan peaks.

Located in the Chamoli district, the trek begins from the picturesque mountain village of Lohajung, situated at an altitude of approximately 7,600 ft. From here, the trail gradually climbs through beautiful Oak, Fir, Cedar and Rhododendron forests, taking trekkers deeper into the peaceful Himalayan wilderness.

One of the biggest attractions of the Brahmatal Trek is the opportunity to experience two beautiful high-altitude lakes — Bekaltal and Brahmatal. During the winter months, these lakes can transform into stunning frozen landscapes surrounded by snow-covered forests and mountains. The combination of frozen lakes, white meadows and silent forests creates a magical winter trekking experience.

As you progress higher, the dense forests gradually open into vast alpine meadows and mountain ridges. The landscape becomes more dramatic, with expansive views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The trail towards the summit takes you across ridges with valleys on either side, creating an incredible sense of being surrounded by the mountains.

The highlight of the trek is the Brahmatal Top, located at approximately 12,250 ft. From the summit ridge, trekkers can witness magnificent panoramic views of Himalayan peaks including Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, along with other surrounding ranges. The summit section is one of the most rewarding parts of the entire journey.

During the winter season, Brahmatal becomes a completely different world. Snow-covered trails, frozen lakes, white meadows and crisp mountain air make it one of the most memorable winter trekking experiences in Uttarakhand.

The journey is not only about reaching the summit. The changing landscape throughout the trek is what makes Brahmatal special — from peaceful forest trails and small mountain streams to open meadows, high ridges and spectacular Himalayan viewpoints.

Another unique aspect of Brahmatal is the Rhododendron and Oak forest trail. During the flowering season, rhododendrons add vibrant colours to the otherwise green mountain landscape, while during winter, the same forests can be covered in snow.

❄️ A Perfect Winter Himalayan Experience

Brahmatal is especially popular between December and March, when the region generally experiences its winter transformation. Snow-covered trails and frozen lakes can make the trek feel like a completely different Himalayan world.

However, winter also means colder temperatures and potentially challenging trail conditions. Participants should therefore come prepared with proper winter clothing, trekking shoes and basic physical fitness.

🏕️ More Than Just a Trek

A Brahmatal expedition is an experience of mountains, nature, adventure and companionship.

From travelling together from Mumbai and meeting fellow travellers to camping under the Himalayan sky, walking through silent forests, experiencing snowfall and standing on a high Himalayan ridge, every part of the journey becomes a memory.

The route combines adventure with scenic beauty, making it an excellent choice for travellers looking to experience the Himalayas beyond the usual tourist destinations.

Whether you are looking for your first Himalayan winter adventure or want to add another beautiful Himalayan trail to your trekking journey, Brahmatal offers an unforgettable experience filled with snow, forests, lakes, mountains and adventure.
